Enrolling your child at Mary McLeod Bethune Day Academy

Mary McLeod Bethune Day Academy currently has slots available in most grade levels for the 2010-2011 school year. If you would like for your child to attend Mary McLeod Bethune Day Academy, download the paper application and fax it to 202-536-2670 or drop it off at one of our locations. You may also call 202-723-5800 to request an application by mail or stop by one of our campuses.

In addition to the application, parents will need to verify DC residency and submit health and immunization records and birth certificate. For your convenience, the necessary forms can be downloaded below in advance.

Mary McLeod Bethune Day Academy is a free public school open to all residents of the District of Columbia. Spaces are limited and applicants will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.

about Admissions

What grade levels are offered at MMBDA?
MMBDA currently serves students from Preschool 3 through Grade 8.

What age does my child have to be to enroll in preschool?
Students must be three years of age by September 30th.

Does MMBDA offer a before and after school program?
Yes, MMBDA offers before care beginning at 7 AM and after care until 6 PM

What are the school hours?
For students in grades Pre-K through 3, school hours are from 8:30 AM - 3:45 PM. For students in grades 4 throuh 7, the school day is from 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.

When is the enrollment period?
The Enrollment Period for MMBDA is from January 4 through April 30, 2010. To ensure a placement we should receive your completed application as early as possible.

Does MMBDA use a lottery system for enrollment?
MMBDA currently has open-enrollment for most grade levels. Placement in our program is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once a grade is fully-subscribed, new applications will be entered into a random lottery and/or waitlisted.

Does MMBDA provide transportation?
MMBDA does have bus service and will be adding more stops for the 2010-2011 school year. To request a stop in your neighborhood, please e-mail transportation@mmbethune.org.
